Riviera PlaySchool

Our wonderful, NVC-trained teachers / facilitators are
passionate about our students and our school, which creates a
joyful and compassionate environment in which the children can
feel connected and secure. Our teachers are educated in art,
languages, linguistics, mathematics, nature, physical fitness, literature, science, child development and
brain development, which bolsters the enriching environment for our children. We have an incredibly
attentive ratio of 1 to 4!

Riviera PlaySchool is a humanistic, constructivist, and mindful preschool based on principles from leaders
in child advocacy such as Bev Bos, Alfie Kohn, Daniel Siegel, Reggio Emilia, Joseph Chilton Pearce, Naomi
Aldort, Ruth Beaglehole, and Marshall Rosenberg. Leaders of mindfulness and peace, Thick Nhat Hanh
and Mahatma Ghandi, and Jiddu Krishnamurti, who encourages us to 'question everything,' also inspire
our school significantly.

Director Linda Shannon graduated with honors from Michigan State University, and has been working
with children and youth for over 13 years. After earning her bachelor's degree in English Literature, with
minors in Mathematics, Linguistics, and Japanese, she pursued independent study in child development
and theory, including coursework in communications at the Center for Non-violent Education and
Parenting, with founder and executive director Ruth Beaglehole. Linda also studied directly under Bev
Bos and Marshall Rosenberg. In addition to being the mother of 4 year old son Kian, Linda is an energy
and life coach, working with children young and old to reach their highest potential and find fulfillment
within their lives. She is also an avid gardener, a builder, a writer, an artist, she is bilingual in Japanese,
and loves people.
